Happy to help. Most questions are answered below.
Getting started
- Browse the four pillars. From the sidebar, open Patterns, Best Practices, UX Laws, or Psychology. Each list scans by its concept illustration and title.
- Open an entry. You get a short summary, the reasoning, how to apply it, a good-versus-bad example, and, on most entries, an interactive demo to play with.
- Search or ask. Use the field at the top of the sidebar. Type to find entries by meaning, or ask a question and tap Ask for a short, grounded answer.
Frequently asked
Does the app work offline?
Yes, fully. The entire library ships inside the app, and both search and the assistant run on your device. You never need a connection.
How does search understand what I mean?
It builds text embeddings on your device with Apple's Natural Language framework and ranks entries by meaning, blended with a keyword score so exact terms and titles still rank strongly. Nothing is sent anywhere.
What powers the Ask assistant?
On a device with Apple Intelligence enabled, Ask uses Apple's on-device model to answer in a few short sentences, grounded in the most relevant guide entries. Where the on-device model is unavailable, it falls back to a concise answer drawn straight from those entries. Either way it stays on your device and never invents entries.
Why do some entries not have a demo?
Most entries do. A few concepts are best read rather than operated, such as broad container patterns or internal mental states, so they show the explanation and illustration without a demo.
Does it support light and dark mode?
Both. The app follows your system appearance, and the whole interface, illustrations, and demos adapt to each.
Is UX Field Guide free?
Yes. Free, with no ads and no in-app purchases.
